Why Pivot?

Searching for a name that represents program evaluation is tough business.  Program evaluators often have difficulty with elevator speeches explaining what program evaluation entails.  Often the word improvement comes up.  Improvement implies 2 points in time.

I began backpacking at 7 years old and never got enough of it.  One of the first lessons I learned was to occasionally turn around to see the path from a different perspective.  One of my elevator speeches for program evaluation is that it’s an opportunity to know where you have been, so you can see where you are going. 

Taking the opportunity to Pivot on your path, provides an important guiding perspective. Simply asking “What can we do better?” is the pivot that organizations do to know where they have been and to see where they are going.
